Why Seth Gave Up His Role In 'Superbad'

It goes without saying that the 2007 flick, Superbad is hands down one of the funniest films! Starring none other than Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, and Seth Rogen, the movie tells a tale many can relate to, especially Seth!

Not only did the actor write the film alongside his high school bestie, Evan Goldberg, but he was originally meant to play the role of Seth. Instead, Seth Rogen took on another role, that of Officer Michaels, which he did so alongside Bill Hader who portrayed Officer Slater.

Seth believed that he wouldn't be able to pass for a high schooler, considering his age and that of the characters didn't match up. So, the role ended up going to Jonah Hill, who starred in the 40-Year-Old Virgin with Rogen two years prior.

Rogen revealed that he and Goldberg had begun writing Superbad when they were in the eighth grade! The actor spoke to GQ where he claimed that "it incorporated a lot of our real-life high school stories." And not to mention, the "character's names are Seth and Evan, after me [Seth] and Evan."

Seth went on to reveal that he was originally meant to play the role of high schooler, Seth. "I was gonna play Seth and we would hire another actor to play Evan ... But it basically took us so long to get the movie made that I aged out of the role essentially," he said.

Considering Seth and Evan were 24 by the time the movie came to fruition, they could no longer play an 18-year-old anymore.

"So I played this cop that was always in the script, and I much more convincingly played a guy in his late 20s who was a really irresponsible cop," Seth said, and truthfully so!

While fans definitely would have loved to see Rogen's take on playing Seth on-screen, Jonah managed to not only do it but perhaps do it better! Die-hard fans cannot picture anyone but Hill playing the role, as he did such a stellar job, one that will go down in comedy history!
