JAY-Z hit the stage in celebration of Tom Brady being inducted into the Patriots Hall Of Fame this week, receiving a lackluster response from the bourgeoisie crowd that was clearly unfamiliar with his musical legacy.
Footage from Wednesday’s (June 12) event welcoming the seven-time Super Bowl champ into the HOF finds Hov opening up the ceremony with a performance of “Public Service Announcement (Interlude).” The track was also played whenever Brady ran onto the field at Gillette Stadium, so it made sense for the wordsmith from Marcy to pay tribute with the record.
“Put one hand in the air for the GOAT, Mr. Tom Brady, tonight,” JAY-Z told the crowd onstage.
Most notable for Hip-Hop fans, however, was the crowd’s seeming indifference to the multi-platinum artist hitting the stage, as footage shows just a sprinkling of fans who were engaged. The majority of VIPs seated up front continued their side conversations, or sat and stared blankly at the 24-time Grammy winner, unaffected by the music. It wasn’t until Brady was shown entering the stadium on the big screen that the crowed stood up and showed some enthusiasm.

“A solid performance, tough Caucasian crowd,” offered another observer. “They’d rather Luke Combs or Post Malone. [Moral] of the story, you don’t need to have a seat at every table.”
Another supporter of the “Change Clothes” artist questioned, “Where the hell are they at where the crowd isn’t really engaging with the GOAT, especially during this song,” as another wrote, “They wylin for not payin attention to Hov.”
Brady was joined by over 200 former Patriots teammates and several former coaches, including head coach Bill Belichick, The New York Times reports.
In addition to Jay, comic and Boston native Bill Burr also hit the stage, as well as country music legend Kenny Chesney, also serenaded the crowd with “Boys of Fall” towards the end of the ceremony. Check out more pics and clips from the event below.
