It's been a few years since 'Sex and the City' was on the air, but fans haven't forgotten it. Clearly — the reboot is now front and center, which means fans' passion for 'SATC' has never waned.
In fact, fans are waiting so impatiently for the next chapter, with some even claiming they'll boycott the new series because Kim Cattrall won't be reprising her role as Samantha. Say what?!
But really, realizing that they could have had a 'SATC' show with Victoria Beckham in it but that the star had the audacity to pass on the opportunity probably bugs fans even more.
So why did Victoria say no?
Considering the timeline for 'Sex and the City' and Victoria Beckham's rise to fame, the answer is pretty clear. As IMDb explains, Beckham ultimately turned down a cameo opportunity alongside Sarah Jessica Parker because of scheduling conflicts.
'SATC' ran from 1998 to 2004, while the Spice Girls started their upward trajectory in 1994. While they went on more than one tour, the Spice World tour kicked off in 1998, which could have been the reason why 'SATC' showrunners were looking at having Posh on for a cameo role in the first place.
Victoria was pretty busy after that year, too. The Spice Girls had other tours, and it was apparently the rehearsals that interfered with Beckham's ability to take on other projects at the same time.
However, not every Spice Girl said no to dropping by SJP's stomping grounds. In fact, Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) played Samantha's friend Phoebe in one episode back in season six, notes Cosmopolitan. Her "noughties ra-ra skirt" was iconic, notes Cosmo, and the guest appearance was one of the most notable cameos of the entire series (and they even Justin Trudeau twice!).
But Victoria didn't totally miss her chance at being on TV. In addition to starring in a few reality shows/documentaries about her (and her family's) life, Beckham has also enjoyed a handful of cameos on other sitcoms.
Fans will recall that the Spice Girls had their own movie, of course. So Victoria was no stranger to film sets. But she also appeared in 'Zoolander' and 'Ugly Betty' — and she once voiced a character for 'Spongebob,' notes IMDb. Of course, she was also a judge on 'Project Runway' and competed on 'Dancing With the Stars.'
Clearly, she's not too posh to hop on a sitcom or comedy film to delight fans. So maybe the rebooted 'SATC' will extend another invitation for a cameo opportunity?
Of course, maybe it's a good thing Victoria passed on the 'SATC' role. After all, rumors of catfights between Kim Cattrall and the rest of the cast did plague the set. As Victoria reportedly has a good relationship with her fellow Spice Girls, fans can bet she wouldn't stand for the drama.
